Chuck In A Truck

chuck-in-a-truck

“He just stopped showing up and wont answer my calls.” “My last guy took a real job.” “Chuck said his mower broke and it will be weeks till he can afford to fix it.”Some phrases that we hear over and over again when meeting new clients. This is what we refer to in our industry as “Chuck In The Truck” No offense to any solo operated businesses or any one named “Chuck”. But in most of these instances “Chuck” is a non licensed, non insured, and non business person just trying to earn enough to survive from day to day. Nothing morally or ethically wrong with that, but it’s not the way a business should be run. Not to mention the fact that it is illegal. Landscaping and lawn care for too long have been looked down as a “Non professional” industry, but nothing can be farther from the truth. Yes, anyone “can push a mower” and that’s fine if you just want your grass cut. But in order to have a manicured lawn or landscape, you need a professional. An individual or business that is licensed, insured and will be in business for the long term. Would you hire an unlicensed electrician, plumber or attorney? Probably not, hopefully not! Some of those professions you may hire only once a year or every few years. So why hire a non licensed and uninsured lawn guy who will be on your property 20 to 30 times a year? One stray rock from a mower or trimmer could cost you thousands of dollars in window repair. Your grass being mowed too short or not recognizing disease in your grass could kill it. How can you expect to recoup any of these costs from anyone that is unlicensed and uninsured? In conclusion, when hiring a lawn care or landscaping contractor, be sure they are licensed by both the State’s Attorney General’s Office and the State’s Department of Agriculture and are insured.
